Status: It's 8:31 on Friday morning, and I don't know who I am.

And that's okay, because He does. :) in fact, thank goodness we never have to know.

Quiet Mornings

I've always grown up by spending the mornings by myself. My mom left for work at 5:30 every day and my dad, who worked out of the house, would normally be at the health club or out at starbucks during my morning hours. By elementary school I was used to waking myself up in the morning, making breakfast, watching TV, and then getting myself out to the bus ontime. I even managed to wake up before my sister when she lived at home -just before I would sneak into her room turn on her closet light and ask her what I should wear.

Now, twenty years later, I'm still the first person up in our apartment. I flick on the lights in the morning and tell the house it's time to wake up. I cook my breakfast in silence or put on a few melodies in my bedroom while I'm getting ready. A sweet silent peace sits on the house when you're the only one up. It's my time in the day to have the entire home to myself, to focus only on myself, and let my heart waken up again.

To all my friends and peers in college who gawk and ask why I wake up at 6:30- this is why. I simply love my mornings to myself.

Thinker

Lately people keep telling me that I'm a thinker.
I come up with these big complex issues for fun.
It's just what my mind does.
Needless to say, I identified and laughed with this comic.

Coffee Mornings with a Hint of Chocolate

The aroma of coffee fills the room. -professors, students, administrators -walk in and order their own specific mix. A different language is spoken -filled with fun words such as tall, vente, capacino. The chair is warm and snuggly and the cushion gently sinks as I slide in -a somehow comforting feeling, as though pleasure is found with the usedness of the chair. In homes well worn furniture is always a suretell sign of long enjoyable conversations, close relationships, and relaxation. My feet leisurely sleep on the round cushion directly in front. Hot chocolate is sipped. It's a prime hour for people watching....

a man drops his rather large fully opened umbrella outside the window. enters. orders. and sets up camp across from me- keeping a careful eye on whether any of the students are too eagerly wishing they had remembered their own umbrella this morning. papers flutter out of his briefcase. my mind wanders about what his story might be...

Sigh. As the rain pitters I remind myself that not this morning. It's not the morning to meander and watch each drop playfully chase one another down the window pane. work must be done.

essays that spur intellectual consideration, light music playing in the background. this is my atmosphere.

Yes We Can

The results of Super Tuesday came in this morning with the leading cover story "Obama vs. Clinton still Neck and Neck." I came across this artisic piece. You have to admit, its pretty powerful. Words and music put together just show how our languague by itself along with some melodic notes can convey some of the strongest messages known to man.

The Many Emotions of Studying Microbiology

microbes: anything to small to be visible with the naked eye; includes such things as bacteria and viruses.
the bacteria and I are having a war tonight before my test on thursday.
hmm, I think I must have some lysozymes around here somewhere....
ps. to those of you not studying MIC
lysozymes: a substrate that breaks the peptidoglycan beta 1,4 bonds and ceases the synthesis of a bacteria's cell wall- it's the most important component in antibiotics such as penicillin

My mom always said, "take time each day to appreciate good art. It enriches our lives."
