Is the Mentadent Claim True?

Mentadent claims to whiten your teeth in seven days. Roomates put it to the test. The before picture...

Little Wall of Women

A book has never made me cry before, but Sue Monk Kidd's novel The Secret Life of Bees has probably been the closest out of any of them. It is a heartfelt novel about deep wounds, full forgiveness, imagination, the sacred black mother Mary, and a line of big black stout women called "The Daughters." Towards the end the little girl is confronting her hurtful father and "The Daughters"come stand by and support her.

Sue Monk describes it as "I wonder how we must look to him. A bunch of women- Mabelee four foot ten, Lunelle's hair standing straight up on her head begging to be braided, Violet muttering Blessed Mary, and Queenie- tough old Queenie- with her hands on her hips and her lip shoved out, every inch of her saying I double dog dar you to take this girl."

"Good riddance, he said, and moved toward the door. We had to open up our little wall of women to let him through."

This is how I imagine my life has been. When people have come in a created deep wounds into my heart, I have had a group of women standing right there with me as well. And I wonder what we must look like. A bunch of women- Aunt Julie a little over five feet tall and her sharp black boots on, Aunt Marcia with her wild poodle hair with one of her fists in the air resembling the stature of a tough little dwarf, miniture Emily standing as if she was 7 feet tall and eyebrows raised and pierced lips, tiny little tough oma praying the hail mary with her german apron on, and my mother- tough mother- with her sleeves rolled up as if she were about to go digging in a garden, every inch of her saying I dare you to even try and hurt my little girl one bit.

We have a little wall of women alright. Tough little german women, with a slight edge of style.

Life as a Musical

Some days I wish my whole life was a musical. That at any moment... either during a lecture, when something funny happens, after hearing sad news, falling in love, or any other random moment... the whold world around you would just break out in a song and dance. I think people would be a lot happier.

So my musical track for this afternoon walk was Regin Spektor's "On the Radio."

"your young until your not. you love until you don't. you try until you can't. you laugh until you cry. you cry until you laugh. and everyone must breathe until their dying breathe. oh this is how it works, you peer inside yourself. you take the things you like. and try to love the things you took. and then you take the love you make and stick it into some. someone else's heart, pumping someones else's blood. and walk in arm in arm. you hope it don't get hard. but even if it does you just do it all again."

-Yea, that girl walking to class dancing on the sidewalk made of bricks this afternoon-it was me : )

The Love I'm Waiting For

I want a "Opa and Oma" love.

What was I made for?

I was made to love you.
I was made to find you.
I was just for you.
Made to Adore you.
I was made to love, and be loved by you.

You were here before me.
You were waiting on me.
And you said you'd keep me.
Never would you leave me.
I was made to love, and be loved by you.

My Personal Thesis

My Little Indulgences

As winter break 06' comes to an end I've been trying to mentally prepare myself for next semester... as well as fully relax myself in a warm sea full of my favorite pleasures. It's very important to make sure we are doing things just for ourselves sometimes. Doing things that we truely enjoy and that make us happy. My new goal for this upcoming semester: to take time out for myself and my favorite things everyday.

My little indulgences:

  • Reading a good novel
  • Taking bubble baths
  • Getting hot chocolate from starbucks and drinking it with a chocolate chip cookie
  • Finger painting
  • Buying warm socks
  • Finding inspiring quotes
  • Wearing slippers
  • Sitting in the sun and drinking iced tea through a straw
  • Lighting candles
  • Talking on the phone with my mom
  • Painting my nails
  • Playing with little kids
  • Sleeping in
  • Going for walks around the lake.. haha pond... with my Ipod
  • Doing the BodyFlow workout
  • Having a sit under my favorite blanket on the couch and watching movies all day long.. day
  • Dancing in my bedroom to LOUD music
  • Journaling
  • Stretching in the morning
  • Spraying frebreeze in the house
  • Eating hershy kisses on my way to class

I can't split up my time in events that I think would make me happy or that would make others happy. College is about self discovery and making decisions just for me. Now, don't think I'm selfish because what really satisfies my heart is loving others; but I can't love others until I love myself.

Simple Wisdom

From the words of a wise woman in my life:

- a meaningful life is built one day at a time -

In heaven I think I'll be able to know all the differences I made in peoples lives. Because of my one act of kindness, I'll be able to see the difference I made in the world by touching just one person's soul. That's all I want.
