My mom shared some advice and wisdom this evening that I think will be important to remember as I continue along this life journey of nursing.

"when you become a nurse you have to know, that you will lose your innocence. Seeing hurt and evil like that really drains a person. You can't remain childlike and innocent because you see the brutality and life of it all. That is why a lot of nurses burn out so soon. Instead you must realize the fragility of life, but choose to actively block out the evilness of people. Love the person you are caring for and make a heart connection. Allow their light to shine and know that no matter what you are doing the best you can do. Whether they die or life. In the end the love can overpower the evil."

The Cicadas are Coming!

Today's buggy facts:

The recent buzz around the midwest is upcoming cicada emergence after around 17 years of lying dormant in the ground. These bugs are generally a couple inches in length and only appear around every fifteen years.

Local newspapers report, "The red-eyed, shrimp-sized, flying insects don't bite or sting. But they are known for mating calls that produce a din that can overpower ringing telephones, lawn mowers and power tools."

But what exactly will the billions of cicadas in the Midwest be like? Only time can tell!

Summers Theme

After a year of growing, learning, playing, stressing, worrying, studying, laughing, crying, rejoicing, and personal stretching... I am about ready to define a new theme for summer.
No more anxiety. No more big decisions. No more "city life." But simply chilling for the summer and enjoying being a midwest girl. No more sudden life changes. No more confusion and heart throb. But simply great memories with good family and friends.

I think we all need moments in life where we can sit back, lick up the ice cream dripping down the cone, and chill!

Road Trippin!

Molte dispiaces (many apoligies) for not posting in such a long time. But as you can see from the video above this past week I have found myself simply enthralled in the road trip of a lifetime! The best friend came down and we traveled aprox. 2,000 miles all the way from my school in Miami to Crystal Lake.

Let the summer begin!

Daisy Riffic

Somedays we just need a daisy to make us smile.

Friday, May 4, 2007

I've had this whole week off before finals, and I've been going crazy with energy. There is nothing to do but study and be by myself. It all feels so unsettled. And yet, as I was brushing my teeth this morning it hit me: why I am so discontent and unsettled right now.

I was made to be with and help people. God gave my soul so much energy that unless I was helping people and working for others I wouldn't be able to contain it all. I can't be happy and content just living selfishly. I need to be with others and care for them. That's what makes me happy.

No wonder I'm becoming a nurse.

You learn a little bit about yourself everyday!

Bar Advice , to bring a smile

Nothing can beat feeling sad over a guy,
calling your sister (who is at a bar with her friends),
and having the phone be passed around with different pieces of slightly drunken advice:

1. guy one: well, let's just look at the positives... you are emily's sister and if you look anything like her you have that going for you. your not in the plus sizes, thats great. all guys in college are worthless until they hit senior year. till then they are just imature and not worth your time. so what you need to do is just hit a bar and rebound

2. her roomate: you just wait one day heidi, you are going to meet some hott ass doctor who is going to be rich and a great guy. i mean think, your going to be married your whole life. guys are retards, esp. guys in college. you're going to meet someone so much better and he's going to be lucky.

3. guy two: hey, how you doing. let's just look at the facts. there are hundreds of other guys in the world. thousands. hell, you could go international and then there would be billions. i mean, india's got some smart ones. or in china they abort a lot of the girl babies, so you already have that going for you. no, i know it sounds funny, but its true.

4. guy three (or maybe it was guy one again): here, my dad always told me this, and you can just take it and put it in girl terms: girls are like buses, a new one comes every hour on the hour. and then he said but never call a girl a bus to her face. so just tell this guy that he's an idtiot and is missing out big time. sucks for him.

5. sister (the best!): heidi, i love you, it'll be okay. other friends will come along, you'll always be loved. it'll be okay. are you laughing now? see all my friends want to talk to you! they all love you and they don't even know you!

disclaimer: i personally do not agree with any of the rebound, racist, abortion, and such comments listed above

Daily Highlights

  • being a 50 yr. old drunk jewish mother in acting class, breaking plates, and yelling in a "fran the nanny" accent (note to self, it really is great for releasing built up tension)
  • working out and studying the water soluble vitamins (did you know... folate comes from foritfied grains and prevents spinobifida, and niacin works as an energy metabolizer and accepts hydrogen?)
  • but to top it all off, a visit with my little cuban grandmother.. mi abuela favorita!

A Glimpse of my Life

You know you're from Miami when:

1. during finals week, you're hanging out at the pool with a good book. you know your beach towel is actually a sun dial. somehow it mysteriously turns to follow the sun.

2. you pass by a live alligator while walking on the brick path back to your dorm. no, he wasn't just in the water, he was up on land with two cops surronding him. no big deal you think, stare at him a little, and casually continue on your way

3. when you go take your car into get service, the service dept. is actually just a little plastic tent attactched to the side of a building. they all are speaking spanish, but they can address you in english and actually seem like real down to earth guys who are going to take good care of your car.
